Why Chesapeake Shores Hits Home
Finishing this series left my heart heavy—because it was so wholesome, so heartwarming, and a perfect feel-good, family watch. I am speaking about *Chesapeake Shores*. You know how I have a favorite character from every series, movie, or book? Well, this time, every single character in this series was so well written and given equal importance, from the grandmother to the youngest daughter in the family, that everyone of them has become close to my own heart, a part of my fictional family.
Families are never perfect; we have our bumps and curves along the road. But you still have to take that journey together because, at the end of the day, "blood really is thicker than water." I didn't sob like I normally would with other series, but I did shed a few tears—happy and satisfied tears—because the climax couldn’t have been more perfect.
I finished watching the series around 1:30 AM, then went to bed. Now it is 8:43 AM, and I woke up feeling that heaviness in my heart. Movies, series, and books have this impact on me; well, the good ones do. Some people tell me, "It's just fiction; you shouldn't take it to heart this much." But what do they know? Writing is an art—bringing to life characters that entirely lived in the writer’s mind for the whole world to watch or read is no easy task, and it’s often underappreciated.
I've always loved stories—from short stories to big novels, I've loved them all. People think the cinematic or book world is just about happiness, and that’s why I like being lost in them. But to be honest, it's the pain, misery, grief, pandemonium, disappointment, fear, anger, regret, and all the negative emotions that draw me to them. Of course, I love the lovey-dovey moments—people going from strangers to soulmates, old friends becoming a couple, second-chance romances, enemies to lovers. I love seeing them; I love the tension in the air. But no good movie, series, or book covers a single emotion.
You see, human life is a roller coaster. It's not a smooth slide into the water; it's a freaking roller coaster that twists and turns in the air at such a great height that you might die of a heart attack. A human life consists of everything; it is sometimes having to live with both sides of the coin, even if we say we can't choose both.
I know I've drifted away from the topic. So, *Chesapeake Shores* is a must-watch if you like family dramas. It’s such a subtle, feel-good watch. If you’re looking for something with a good ending, filled with nothing but love and care, and people always having your back no matter what—well, you’ve found the right series. And you know what the irony is? It was my sister who started watching this series first, but she dropped it because she doesn’t have the patience for it, of course. I think, in her whole life, she has finished about five series in total. Funny, isn’t it? But *Chesapeake Shores* is about family, about siblings, and I'm so glad I was able to watch this masterpiece of a show because of my own sibling. I owe her one.
